Basil makes a terrific companion plant in the garden and is known to improve the flavor of plants around them!

Depending on if you start from seed or transplant, you should still have a harvest of basil within 2 months even in the summer heat!

Beans (both bush and pole) are great to grow in the summer! Once the intense heat of the summer kicks in we switch this over to Southern Peas (Black-Eyed Peas) which can tolerate LOTS of heat!

These beans are also terrific companions – providing both nitrogen to the soil as well as some shade to other plants during the heat of the summer.

Beans will typically take around 60 days from planting to harvest.

Cucumbers grow fantastic in the summer heat and can be fast growing! If you’re looking for an extremely fast harvest try the pickled varieties which are much smaller so they will grow faster for you. 

Cucumbers will usually take between 50-60 days to get a harvest.

Summer squashes (including both yellow squash and zucchini) take the summer heat really well!

They can also give you a terrific harvest starting around 50 days!

Okra is a great summer crop that takes the heat really well! It can grow and produce in even the most intense heat.

Okra will give you a harvest between 60-70 days.
